Our team returned from Guatemala very early in the morning on June 28th with great anticipation of seeing our families.
In looking back, I asked myself, what would happen on this trip that would make a change not only in our brothers and sisters in Guatemala but our teams hearts as well. As the days passed under the hot sun in Guatemala, I could see the smiling faces and hear the upbeat conversations about the children with big brown eyes and shiny black hair they had met since our arrival. There was no way of avoiding the love and acceptance as they smothered us with affection that many of us had never experienced before. God was moving on our team, our hearts and new relationships were being created for a lifetime.
As we traveled to schools to minister through dramas, when the time came to say "goodbye", we were met with arms tightly secure around your waist not wanting to let go and only to see those beautiful brown eyes looking up to you saying "please don't go just yet", or the time spent at the orphanage helping make sock puppets as you gave them your undivided attention and the smiles that will last a lifetime, or VBS when we sat on the floor to help them with their lesson and they all wanted to sit on your lap. Relationships began to sprout everywhere, love bloomed and mentors were born.
The precious time spent in Guatemala was short but the love that was built between our new familes and within our team has changed us forever. When God is at the center of a relationship...our lives are changed for eternity.
To the Guatemala Team of 2008, I believe that Our God would say to you, "Well done, thy good and faithful servants."
